Greater Cumberland Committee Seeking Executive Director

The Greater Cumberland Committee is a business-funded non-profit organization with business presidents and CEO's on its board representing Allegany and Garrett Counties, MD; Bedford County, PA and Mineral County, WV.  The organization represents more than 12,000 employees in the Tri-State region. The mission of TGCC is to improve the business climate of the greater Cumberland region by organizing its corporate and civic leadership to develop solutions to the problems that affect the region's competitiveness and viability.


JOB REQUIREMENTS:  This position requires an optimistic, professional, highly motivated community-knowledgeable self-starter with excellent communication skills, an enthusiastic personality, and ability to think creatively.  Also required is the ability to take charge of any and all situations that may arise during employment.  Background in organizational management, government relations and negotiation is recommended.  Bachelor?s degree or equivalent experience preferred.

OVERALL RESPONSIBILITY:  To lead a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization whose mission is to improve the area?s business climate by organizing corporate and civic leadership to develop solutions to the problems that affect the region?s competitiveness and viability, and to carry out the Committee?s strategic plan as it relates to that mission.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  1. To act as the chief administrative and operating officer of The Greater Cumberland Committee, insofar as recommending policy, strategic plan action and direction and overseeing fiduciary responsibility of the 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization.
  2. To inform the Officers and Members of issues relating to TGCC?s mission, and carry out the directions of those groups relating to TGCC?s purpose and goals.
  3. Maintain working knowledge of regional issues and leaders.  Coordinate progress of projects and special reports and assimilate relevant knowledge and data.
  4. To maintain a close communication with members and other outside contacts to achieve TGCC?s mission.
  5. To provide liaison with the public and private sector, when authorized, representing and acting as the person speaking for TGCC, and maintaining effective relations with the various organizations that comprise the public and private sector.
  6. To research public policy issues and prepare position statements, including, but not limited to, letters, memoranda, and briefing papers.
  7. To manage daily office operations as related to hiring, scheduling, supervising, evaluating and discharging staff.
  8. To direct development of meeting agendas, financial reports, the annual report and other correspondences and activities as they relate to TGCC?s mission.

EXPECTATIONS:

Requires some evening hours and, on occasion, weekend hours. (Including various municipal and/or county government meeting attendance and/or presentations.)

Serves on various community/regional boards and committees, including but not limited to:

  • Allegany County Chamber?s Economic Development Committee
  • Allegany County Workforce Summit (past service: chair) and associated work groups
  • CACIF (Cumberland-Allegany County Industrial Foundation)
  • Garrett County Development Corporation (past service on IT committee)
  • Mineral County Legislative Day organizing committee
  • Mt. MD Joint Legislative Committee
  • Mountainside Community Coalition (past service: board vice-chair)
  • Local Advisory Council for Career & Technology Education (Allegany Co.)
  • President?s Advisory Council for ATK
  • Western MD Health System Community Advisory Board
  • Work groups for Cumberland ?s economic development plan, Allegany County housing strategic plan, Allegany County Board of Education?s No Child Left Behind Master Plan Committee, Frostburg State University ?s College of Business
  • Cumberland Rotary
  • Other groups that relate to TGCC?s mission and strategic plan
