The ARS Board of Directors is pleased to announce the second annual Regional Stewardship Awards. The Board established the Regional Stewardship Awards to recognize regions that demonstrate progress in all four elements of the Principles for Regional Stewardship and that have achieved tangible results, increased regional capacity, and shown the potential for sustainability.
Applications from candidate regions are due March 21, 2005, with evaluations to occur during March and April. Award recipients will be announced at the Greater Washington, National Forum on Regional Stewardship, May 4-6, 2005. Up to $50,000 will be allocated for the Awards, which will be distributed among the recipients by the Jury in accordance with their ranking of the applicants.
The Regional Stewardship Awards program, in addition to recognizing innovative regions, will serve as an educational tool for other regions by providing case studies of best practices and lessons learned. Awards will be given to regions that have made measurable progress towards implementing all four elements of the Principles of Regional Stewardship and demonstrate effective cross-jurisdictional and cross-sectoral actions and coalitions. Regions must also show that they have achieved tangible results, increased regional capacity to address issues and create change, and shown the potential for sustainability. To see an example of how this has been accomplished in a region, please visit the Awards page of the ARS website. Applications should be presented in the format outlined in the instructions. Awards will be made only to regions that have tangible results in all four elements of the Principles of Regional Stewardship: Collaborative Governance, Innovative Economy, Livable Community and Social Inclusion. Should none of the applicants meet these standards, the ARS Board of Directors reserves the right to not make awards.
