Registration is now available for the Fall ARS National Forum on Regional Stewardship, to be held in Louisville, Kentucky, November 8-11, 2005. Online registration will be available soon; participants who wish to register now may download a registration form from our website.
The Forum will be proceeded by a Workshop titled "Lessons from Merger" that will highlight the 2003 Louisville-Jefferson County merger experience. Starting Tuesday, November 8th at 1:00pm, representatives from Louisville's public, private, and nonprofit sectors will discuss the history, process, and lessons learned from the merger.
Based on topics requested by community representatives who wish to attend the merger workshop, the agenda will be designed to answer specific questions communities have about the events that led to Louisville-Jefferson County?s successful merger vote in November, 2000; the preparations made to establish a new merged government; and the challenges facing Louisville Metro government since it began operation on January 6, 2003.
The Forum will kick off the afternoon of Wednesday, November 9th, with a tour of the Greater Louisville Region. Sessions will begin on Thursday morning, and will explore such topics as New Ideas in Collaborative Governance, Rural Regional Stewardship, and "Regionalism to the Max." Other sessions will explore new research in regional governance, and participants will have a chance to explore a diagnostic tool that will help them analyze merger and consolidation for their communities.
The Forum will be held at the Brown Hotel, one of Louisville's most treasured historic landmarks located in the heart of Theater Square. Make your reservations by October 17th to receive the group rate of $129/night by calling or .
