ARS Regional Indicators Affinity Group During the ARS National Stewardship Forum in St. Louis in May 2003, a group of individuals met to discuss the formation of an affinity group around indicator initiatives. In response to the high interest, this group was formed and an initial set of questions and ideas were developed. The Regional Indicators Affinity Group met again at the National Stewardship Forum in Boston in November 2003. In addition to the meetings at the Forums, the Affinity Group meets monthly via web-based teleconference. Summaries of the Forum meetings as well as the web teleconferences can be found below. At the Regional Indicators Affinity Group meeting in Boston, participants decided it would be useful to learn how other regions are using indicator projects. To this purpose, the Affinity Group has developed a Regional Indicators Survey that addresses issues such as defining the region, gathering data, measuring impact, and communications. Results of the survey will be posted as a matrix on the ARS website; additionally, ARS will be using the results to begin building a collection of Best Practices/Lessons Learned, which will in turn be used to inform regions on the various methods and uses of indicator projects. We also plan to add a monograph on indicators to our monograph series on regional stewardship.
