Alliance Activities

Hold the Dates for the Next National Stewardship Forum

November 6-7, Boston,Massachusetts

The Alliances next National Stewardship Forum will be held in Boston, Massachusetts on November 6-7, 2003 at the historic Parker House Hotel, located downtown. The November Forum will address the theme of Large-Scale Collaboration among state agencies, regional planning bodies, civic organizations, and institutions of higher learning. Given the compactness of the host region, a sub-theme of this Forum will be the importance of seeking strategies for understanding and addressing urban neighborhood problems in the context of the broader and powerful metropolitan forces that drive them. We are planning some minor adjustments to the program structure intended to maintain momentum and participation throughout the entire 1-1/2-day conference, so watch for announcements. Early bird registration will begin in July and a preliminary agenda with invited speakers will appear in next months newsletter.

California Regional Network Launched in Sacramento

California Civic Entrepreneur Summit held in early June

Formation of the California Regional Network, consisting of 22 regionally based civic organizations working to improve Californias economy and quality of life while enhancing social opportunity, was officially announced at the sixth annual Civic Entrepreneur Summit, held earlier this month in Sacramento, California. The Civic Entrepreneur Summit is organized by the California Center for Regional Leadership (CCRL), a statewide nonprofit group founded in 2000 to support, facilitate and promote innovative regional solutions to major economic, environmental and social challenges confronting California. The regional organizations or regional collaboratives (RCs) that make up the California Regional Network act as conveners and coordinators of community initiatives and participatory governance within their regions. A voluntary association supported and facilitated by CCRL, the Network enables member RCs to share resources and assist one another in building consensus and developing collaborative strategies. The objectives of this new network are introduced in detail in California Regional Network: Regions Working Together for a Better California which may be viewed in pdf format and printed by pointing your browser to www.calregions.org/pdf/crnpub-regionsworking.pdf
