Your work across the public, private and nonprofit sectors to tackle the challenges facing society ? from quality of our lives, to the quality of our roads ? requires a regional approach, yet there is often little recognition of the work it takes to achieve real results. The ARS Regional Stewardship Awards are presented to regions that demonstrate progress in at least one of the four Principles of Regional Stewardship:
- Innovative Economy
- Livable Community
- Social Inclusion
- Collaborative Governance

2006 Award Winners

San Fernando Valley (CA): A five-city region, including part of city of LA, helped accelerate dedicated bus-way for region, customize job training, and gain approval for new statistical region to gather regional data. The working on education summit and welfare-to-work program.

Puget Sound region (WA): In a four-county region, a group of 160 business, labor, government, education and non-profit leaders, is working on 18 initiatives including workforce, transportation, strong civic/nonprofit community, and preserve the environment.

Pittsburgh (PA): In a 10-county region in the southwest corner of Pennsylvania, organized new air service when U.S. Air left, retained U.S. Air Force reserve operation, helped secure $250 million for water quality and sewer improvements from the Federal government.

The three award winners were the Greater San Diego?s Partnership for the New Economy, the Northeast Wisconsin Coalition on the Regional Economy (NEW CORE) and Northern Kentucky?s Vision 2015
